Interesting. Some thoughts:

1. If you start a merchants guild you don't want to let outsiders use your equipment, for the sole fact of we won't make any money, I BELIEVE the point is to use our crafts to sell OUR items, not to let people use the forges labs and tables etc so they can make there own stuff.

I can't agree with that. If someone is visiting, wants to use one of the workshops, and we have time when it's available... why not? We'd be charging them for access (either as a one time fee or a membership in the guild), which means more gold for the guild. Having it sit idle doesn't make sense to me if someone is willing to pay to access it.

2. we need a guild master as well as masters of one of each craft, more people will make it to confusing and the pay won't be worth the stock your producing.

I don't want access restricted. If there's two smiths in the area, great! We never run out of demand for swords.

3. everyone gets a fair cut, then 20 percent goes towards the guild, that money is used to buy production components, and SR and to fix our equipment.

4. and Lastly if your invovled in the guild you can use the stuff for free, and each member can keep some of there own productions, but has to have a certain amount go into the guild every gathering dependant on there level of expertise.

5. A noble agreement to run said guild under above circumstances.

6. the guild should be buying and selling everrything possible, information, components, ect, to make more revenue.


I think there's a misunderstanding on what we want here. I don't want to see the Merchant's Guild form into something like an adventuring team where everybody pools their resources, takes direction, and works as a group. The way I envision it, the guild is a loose affiliation of merchants who join together to ensure their interests as merchants are looked after.

That means access to production materials, that the workshops are available and maintained, and perhaps some of the other ideas here like gathering silver for weapons. But that's it. It's not something that forces people to give some of their production to the guild, or locks people out of accessing the workshops if they're willing to pay, or tells people what to do.

If someone wants to buy or sell information? Great! If they want to share it with other merchants in town, great! If not, great! As a merchant they have the right to buy or sell whatever they want to whoever they want within the law, and any guild that tries to tell me that I must give up some of my potions is not something I wish to be a part of.

The whole idea behind paying for access to the workshop is that the gold covers the upkeep costs, and beyond that I can do whatever I want as a merchant. It also lets those who happen to be members of a noble court, another guild, or a private team join knowing that the Merchant's Guild won't interfere with their private business.
